Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
Jyncs ("Jyncs", "we", "us") makes the Jyncs iOS app and this website. Questions about this policy or your data: support@jyncs.app.
2. What we collect
Your account
- Sign-in details. You sign in with Apple or Google. We receive an account identifier, your email address (with Apple this can be a private relay address) and, if you share it, your name. Google may also send your Google profile photo address. These are held by our sign-in provider, Firebase Authentication, and are not shown to other users.
- Year of birth. We ask for your birth year once, to check you are 13 or older. We store the year only, privately. If you are under 13 we don't store the year; we keep a marker that the check failed, so the check can't be retried.
Your public profile
Your username, avatar, bio, favorite genres, follower and following counts, number of streams and saved songs, a summary of your music taste, and whether you stream. Your profile is public: anyone with the link can see it, including on the web at jyncs.app/u/your-username, which can also show the song you are streaming right now. We ask search engines not to index these pages.
Your avatar is generated by DiceBear, an avatar service: when you pick or change your username, the app sends your username (or, on first sign-in, your account ID) to DiceBear to draw the image, and we then store the image ourselves.
What you create and do in the app
- Chat messages you send in streams, with your username. Anyone signed in who is in the stream can read them.
- Song requests and poll votes you make in a stream.
- Streams you host: the stream's title, genre, welcome text, the songs you queue and play, and listener and song statistics. A summary of each stream (its songs, and who requested them) is visible to signed-in users.
- Voice messages (streamers only): short welcome, exit and mid-stream recordings you make with the microphone, which listeners hear.
- Follows, blocks and notification choices. Who you follow, who follows you, who you block, and which streamers you want go-live alerts from.
- Saved songs ("jyncs"). Songs you save to your Apple Music library from a stream, with the stream they came from. The list is private; the taste summary built from it is on your public profile.
- Listening presence. While you are in a stream we record that you are there, so the streamer and listeners see an accurate count. This is removed when you leave.
- Reports you file about other users, including any detail you type and, when you report a chat message, a copy of that message.
- Support emails you send us. If you send one from the app, it is pre-filled with your device model, iOS version and app version; you can edit it before sending.
Apple Music
With your permission, the app uses Apple Music on your device to play songs, to read your library, playlists and recently played songs so you can build setlists, and to add songs you save to your library. We don't upload your library or listening history. Only the songs you put into a stream you host are sent to our servers. Your Apple Music subscription is between you and Apple. Searches you type for songs are sent to Apple's iTunes Search service; we don't store them.
Usage analytics and crash reports
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics for Firebase to record how the app is used: screens and features used, streams joined, playback and sync quality, errors, and similar events. Events are linked to your account ID and carry your device model, iOS version, app version, network type (Wi-Fi or cellular) and an app-installation ID. Some events include song titles, artist names and song IDs. Google uses your IP address to estimate a coarse location (such as country and city); it does not give us your IP address.
- Crash reports. We use Firebase Crashlytics. When the app crashes or hits an error, it sends a report with the technical details, your device and app versions, an installation ID and your account ID.
- We do not collect your advertising identifier (IDFA), and we have turned off Google's ad personalization features.
Notifications and device
- Push notifications. If you allow them, Firebase Cloud Messaging holds a token for your device so we can tell you when a streamer you follow goes live. If you stream, we store a token for your Live Activity while your stream runs.
- App integrity. Firebase App Check uses Apple's App Attest to confirm requests come from the genuine app. It does not identify you.
- Network data. Like any online service, our providers receive your IP address when the app connects to them.
We don't collect your precise location, contacts, photos, or browsing history, and the app has no ads.
3. How we use it
- To run Jyncs: sign you in, keep listeners in sync, show profiles, chat, requests and streams, and save songs to your library.
- To keep people safe: enforce our Terms, filter abusive text, review reports, and mute or ban accounts.
- To send the notifications you turned on.
- To find and fix bugs, measure performance and improve the app (analytics and crash reports).
- To answer you when you contact us, and to meet legal obligations.
We don't use your data for advertising, we don't sell it, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We don't "track" you as Apple defines it, so the app never asks for tracking permission.
4. Who sees it, and who we share it with
- Other users and the public: your profile (on the web too), your chat in a stream, your streams and their summaries, and (to the streamer) your song requests.
- Google (Firebase and Google Cloud), which hosts and processes our data on our behalf: sign-in, databases, file storage, server functions, hosting, notifications, analytics and crash reports. Servers are in the United States.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple, Apple Music and MusicKit, push delivery, and song search.
- Google Sign-In, if you sign in with Google.
- DiceBear, which receives your username or account ID to draw your avatar (see section 2).
- Law and safety: when required by law, or to protect someone's safety, or our rights.
- A buyer or successor, if Jyncs is sold or merged; this policy would continue to apply.
5. How long we keep it
- Account, profile, follows, blocks, saved songs, voice messages: until you delete them or your account.
- Chat: deleted within about a day after a stream ends. In streams that stay live (including our 24-hour radio rooms), only the latest 200 messages are kept, and none older than 30 days. A message someone reports is copied into the report and kept with it (see below).
- Streams: the stream record is deleted 7 days after it ends, and song requests 3 days after. Mid-stream voice messages are deleted with the stream. Stream summaries are kept until the streamer deletes their account.
- Analytics: kept by Google Analytics for up to 14 months. Crash reports: up to 90 days.
- Server logs: up to 30 days. Database backups: up to 30 days.
- After you delete your account, we keep: your username, reserved so no one can impersonate you, with a reference to your deleted account ID; reports you filed or that were filed about you, including any copy of a reported message, as moderation records for as long as the report is kept; your username on songs you requested in other streamers' stream summaries; and analytics, crash, log and backup data until it expires as described above.
6. Your choices and rights
- See and edit your profile in the app at any time.
- Delete your account in the app: Profile, then Delete Account. This deletes your sign-in account, profile, follows, blocks, saved songs, avatar and voice messages, and the streams you hosted, except for what section 5 says we keep. If you signed in with Apple, it also revokes Jyncs' access to your Apple ID.
- Notifications, Apple Music and microphone access can be turned off at any time in iOS Settings.
- Block or report any user from their profile or from a chat message.
- Request a copy, correction or deletion of your data, or ask a question, at support@jyncs.app. We will reply within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, the UK, or California), you may have further rights: to object to or restrict processing, to data portability, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a data protection authority. We won't treat you differently for using them.
Where EU or UK law applies, we rely on: performing our contract with you (running the service), our legitimate interests (safety, analytics and bug fixing, which you can limit by contacting us), and your consent (notifications, microphone, Apple Music access), which you can withdraw in iOS Settings. Your data is processed in the United States.
7. Children
Jyncs is for people 13 and older. The app asks for your birth year and does not let anyone under 13 create an account. If you believe a child under 13 is using Jyncs, contact support@jyncs.app and we will delete the account.
8. Security
Data is encrypted in transit, stored on Google Cloud, and protected by access rules that limit each piece of data to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
9. This website
This site has no analytics or ads. Its pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address.
10. Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app before it takes effect.
